Common Misconceptions:

1. Negative acceleration is sometimes confused with deceleration. Deceleration means that the acceleration opposes the direction of motion so the object slows down. Negative acceleration means that the acceleration is in the negative direction. If the object was initially travelling in the negative direction, a negative acceleration would increase the velocity of the object.

2. Some may think that zero acceleration means that the object must be at rest. Zero acceleration means that the object is not changing velocity. This could mean that the object is at rest, or it cold mean the object is moving with a constant velocity.
